I’m a Rat

I’m very misunderstood and not many would bring me home to be a family pet.

Sadly that’s my reality but if you did some homework you would find that I’m actually a wonderful pet to have.

There are cages for rodents like me that would make it possible to bring me home and provide me love and attention and I would provide my owners unconditional love through my play and interactions in the cage especially with children.

I’m very clean and social and if my cage is large and vertical with climbing ropes and chew toys and little hammocks or beds I can show you how I live, play, eat, rest and maintain proper hygiene.

I can provide children times of viewing me in action playing.

Children can also view me at rest after I run and climb and get my exercise in for the day.

Pet rats are known as fancy rats similar to fancy mice which means we’re domesticated and you would acquire us in a pet shop.

We love to be with other pet rats and usually should be of the same sex.

Female fancy rats are typically more active than the males and get along well with other females.

Males can be more aggressive with other males and territorial but that’s not always the case.

Children are very curious and want to know how we live so a cage would provide them a wonderful opportunity to see a pet rat up close and they can see how lovable we are.

Our cage should be of a size that we can live comfortably and if we’re paired with another we would need enough space to accommodate us both and the more added the more space in the cage we would need to live together and also have our own space.

Pet rats and pet mice can not be placed together as rats are a threat to mice by nature so never house them together.

Never ever!

Pet rats like to eat different types of food such as vegetables, fruits, meat, fish and eggs.

Pet rats also need water in their diet so they don’t get dehydrated.

There are nearly 60 species of rats and 7 known species of fancy rats throughout the world.

In comparison there are over 1, 000 species of mice yet only 1 species of fancy mice throughout the world.

Fancy rats are adorable and very pleasant creatures who love to play and can provide curious children hours of fun but their cages must be escape proof with bars preventing them from squeezing through for their own safety.

Pet rats are best to live in cages and love company and their toys and are very good with humans.

Wild rats live in colonies and support each other as do wild mice.

Pet rats have a life span also of 2 to 3 years similar to pet mice.

The famed music artist, Michael Jackson wrote a tribute song for his pet rat titled Ben which became a very big hit for him with his fans.

Children love the movie Ratatouille which is based on the premise of a rat, Remy aspiring to be a chef with inspiration from Auguste Gusteau, who developed the saying “Anyone can cook” and soon appears in Remy’s imagination.

Remy meets up with Linguini who attempts to be a cook at the restaurant but not successfully so Remy takes control to realize his dream by hiding under Linguini’s chef hat and impresses the local food critic and becomes famous along with Linguini with the help of legions of rats from the colony when the other chefs quit.

It is a wonderful story and it personalizes the rat as a major character and star of the show.

Fancy rats make perfect pets and should be given the opportunity with the acquisition of an appropriate cage and you will see that it will be a wonderful experience.

So if you see me running around don’t put out traps. I deserve life too and I’m more fun alive climbing in a cage enjoying my brief life while you see me and I promise you that we all will benefit
