I’m a Housefly

I find my place in windowsills and small damp areas in houses or buildings to make my shelter and lay my eggs.

I have to be careful of spiders so I have to find places free of their web trappings.

I have found it safer and cooler in the house and I look for opportunities when I can gain entry.

I’m not trying to get in the way of the inhabitants. I just want a safe place to lay my eggs and find shelter.

I can live outside too and sometimes I prefer that but it’s safer inside though I have to stay clear of exterminators, sprays and fly swatters.

As a fly on the outside I tend to frequent areas near water and polluted grounds so I can get sick and sometimes spread the illness to other areas and locations that pose health risks.

I don’t intend to spread the germs but that is something that happens if I’m not careful.

That’s why hygiene is very important and washing your hands frequently is a way to minimize the spread of germs.

Flies don’t live long lives and usually survive for only a few weeks but they do contribute to the life ecosystem and their main purpose is to carry on life for new flies in the eggs they leave for hatching.

Houseflies are fascinating in how they can go from floor to ceiling and even position themselves to stay on the ceiling.

They have wings and legs which help them with flight and balance.

Houseflies similar to other types of flies can feast on decaying matter for their food sources and also need water for their survival.

Houseflies are the most common of the fly family and there are over 120,000 species of flies and over 4,000 species of houseflies in the world.

Houseflies are a part of our lives and humans and flies exist together just like all the other insects and animals and we need to let them live their lives and fly unharmed.

Their lives are brief on earth but they are a part of the fabric of life.

If you see me flying around in the living room don’t go for the swatter.

Just open the window and let me fly outside because I too deserve life because I’m a housefly.
