I’m a Duck

I’m also a type of bird.

I can fly in the sky.

I can swim in the lake or pond.

I have wings and webbed feet.

The male duck is more colorful than the female duck.

Mallards are most common and if you see a brown duck with speckled dots next to a duck with yellow, green and blue colors the female is the dull color speckled brown while the male is the yellow, green and blue colors.

Ducks like birds fly to warmer climates in the winter yet there are all different types of ducks that can live in both warm and cold climates.

There are 120 species of ducks all throughout the world.

Ducks are very social animals that assemble in groups in the water, the sky and on land.

They stay together to ensure their safety and because they’re used to being in a family.

Children love visiting duck ponds and are thrilled when they see a family of ducks walking in formation with mom and dad in the lead and the babies following behind.

They also can see families of ducks in the pond swimming in formation too.

Ducks are very friendly animals and will come close if they sense trust especially with young children.

Ducks nurture their young and teach them how to take care of themselves when they’re ready to leave the nest and go on their own.

That role is the responsibility of mother duck.

Ducks have a lifespan of around 8 years.

Ducks are beautiful and their babies are so adorable and every child loves a baby duckling. They’re just so cute.

Ducks are very intelligent and playful and love to cuddle and stick together in groups.

Imagine cuddling with a baby duckling. They’re fun and sweet. They are also ok with having pictures taken.

Ducks assembling in formation with their families can walk on trails, paths, roadways and the surrounding areas neighboring the pond for up to a mile in search of food. Those make the best pictures for photographers, artists and children.

Children love the portrayal of ducks in books and movies. The most famous book is The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen which is a wonderful story of a duck considered ugly by others and how he goes from ugly as seen by others to beautiful and socially accepted.

Donald Duck is a character of Walt Disney and he is one of the most popular ducks known to children. He’s friends with Mickey Mouse and is portrayed in so many cartoons.

Daffy Duck is also popular with the children as one of Bugs Bunny’s rivals.

Sports teams have ducks as mascots which reflect their popularity and influence and wins over children as fans of their clubs.

Ducks teach us how important family is and gives us joy when we see them together.

One of the first toys for children is the rubber ducky which every child clings to for comfort and play time in the bath tub or the crib.

Next time you see me waddling with my family with babies in tow please be careful and observe the street signs and stop at all crossings for our protection so we can live full lives. I must protect my family at all times because I’m a duck.
