It wasn’t expected but the country was looking for a path towards healing.

The Beatles were popular in their hometown of Liverpool and homeland of England.

They were travelling and touring throughout their country and Europe putting on shows playing their music that was well received and popular on the charts in the UK and Europe.

Ed Sullivan witnessed crowds in Heathrow Airport in London waiting for the Beatles to arrive home and decided to contact Brian Epstein, their agent to discuss arrangements for the Beatles to make 3 appearances on his show in February 1964 for a whopping $2, 400.

Their first appearance drew a sellout at the venue seating a crowd of 728 with requests for over 50, 000 tickets.

Ed Sullivan certainly benefited from the Beatles multiple appearances on his show and the Beatles became extremely popular in the states.

The first show drew a crowd of tv watchers totaling over 73 million viewers and paved the way for Beatlemania skyrocketing the success of the Beatles and leading to the first British Invasion of music artists to the states.

The Beatles offered healing and hope for better days with their music and their down to earth ways.

Tragedy has taken two Beatles over the years

Sadly John Lennon was murdered on December 8, 1980 at age 40 in New York City shot by a deranged fan in front of his apartment.

George Harrison also was nearly murdered at his home in England on December 30, 1999 stabbed 40 times by an intruder but survived because his wife fought off the assailant.

Sadly George succumbed to lung cancer on November 29, 2001 at age 58.
