I’m a Toad
I am green and brown in color.

I can hide very well.

I live in marshes.

I can find peace on a lily pad.

I am similar to my friend the frog but we do have differences that set ourselves apart.

Our skin is rough and we have bumps which are wart like.

We are looking for our princess to kiss so we can magically transform into a prince as the evil witch has cast a spell as so the fairy tale goes for both us toads and our frog friends.

We love waterways and can be found at lakes and ponds.

Toads are portrayed in all types of children’s stories and are magnificent creatures.

There are approximately 500 species of toads and you can find them in many parts of the world.

Their habitats are in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.

They prefer warmer climates but can survive in colder climates but they must find ways to hibernate to protect themselves during the cold winter.

Toads are solitary creatures but during mating season they come out to meet and find their partner so they can have baby toads.

Toads do nurture their young and maintain a family.

Toads are known for singing and have distinctive calling patterns when they do their dance of love while seeking mates.

Toads are very sensitive to touch and if they are to be a pet they must not be handled because the oils and soaps we use pose risk to toads.

If you want to make a home for your toad you must allow them to have a similar experience to their natural habitat so if you can place them in a terrarium you must have water, sand and rock and provide them a diet of insects, crickets and water for absorption.

Toads don’t drink water like we do. They need water for survival and they use their bodies to absorb the water.

Children are fascinated by toads and can see them in their natural habitat or at commercial aquariums.

Toads can live in drier climates because they have drier skin compared to their counterparts, frogs who mostly live near water because their skin is slimy and needs to be moistened.

When you come to visit at a pond you might be lucky enough to hear our song and see us in our natural habitat.

I have shorter legs than my frog friends and am not known for my jumping ability but I am fun to watch especially my bulging eyes because
