I’m a Skunk

I’m a very shy animal and usually go it alone.

I have some friends I pal around with but I’m mostly by myself.

I like to burrow underground where I find comfort from the heat and shield myself from the sunlight.

I also live in dens abandoned by other animals or ones we build together as a team.

I eat a wide range of food including plants, insects, fruits, vegetables, eggs, fish, small reptiles, snakes and vegetation.

There are 12 species of skunk.

Skunks usually sleep during the day and go out in the night for their food.

Baby skunks are called kits and are born blind and deaf but do obtain sight and hearing in their third week of life though even in adulthood skunks have poor vision so that contributes to their nocturnal ways where they can manage better in the nighttime darkness.

Baby skunks are very dependent on their mothers and need to always be close to them for their survival for their first 4 months until they’re ready to face life on their own. They rely on their mother’s milk for nourishment.

Female skunks do huddle close together in small groups in colder weather to stay warm while males are very much loners and live alone in all kinds of habitats and weather conditions.

Skunks need water in their daily life in addition to an adequate supply of food for their survival in the wild.

Skunks are usually black with white stripes that extend from their head to their tail.

Skunks are very cute animals and can make for good pets if they are raised from a very young age typically after being weaned off their mothers milk but it’s complicated raising them as they require a great amount of attention.

They grow to a size similar to a household cat.

Skunks are agreeable and friendly to humans, animals and friendly pets like cats and dogs if they’re treated well and taken care of in the home they can be trained and be a wonderful companion pet like cats and dogs.

Skunks have a reputation for spraying a musky odor if they feel threatened that can knock your socks off but generally they are a friendly animal if you prove a trusted friend to them.

This is their form of protection from predators in the wild.

Skunks have short lifespans in the wild typically not much longer than 3 years. However if they live in captivity and are well taken care of they can live up to 15 years.

Children love skunks and are amazed by their cuteness and love to see how they live in the zoo where they can visit them in the exotic animals section.

Pepé Le Pew was a cartoon character featured on Loony Tunes displaying his unique personality as a French striped skunk and friend to Bugs Bunny and his gang in search of love.

Skunks are animals that many people want to stay clear of but they are beautiful, friendly and very intelligent.

If you see me in the wild don’t fear me. Just try to understand that I also exist and can be friendly. If you respect me I will respect you and all is right with the world because I’m a skunk.
