I’m a shark
I’m one of the fiercest predators of the sea
I’m long and sinister looking
I’m feared by many
My reputation is that I’m scary, ugly, a predator and very big.

Many in the sea stay clear of me.
Sharks range in size from the smallest, the Dwarf Lantern-shark which is no more than 8 inches in size at full maturity to the largest, The Whale shark which can grow to a size of 66 feet and a weight of 46 tons.

Whale sharks live in warm water climate and are no threat to humans and feast on small fish and plankton.

There are some sharks that pose danger to fish and humans with The Great White being one of the most dangerous.

It has been portrayed in movies and the most famous of them is Jaws which showcases a man eating shark that attacks a girl swimming on the beach at night in a very intense scene that scared many movie goers from going to the beach.

It takes place in a fictional town called Amity where other attacks take place eventually resulting in closure of the beach and an intense manhunt at sea where the police chief and marine biologist destroy the shark after the ship captain is caught by the shark clenched in its jaws in a scene not for the squeamish.

Most sharks are not considered dangerous and many are docile and social but there are some that you should stay clear of such as The Great White Shark, Tiger Shark, Bull Shark and Oceanic Whitetip Shark.

The lifespan of sharks depends on species and size.

Some small sharks live less than 10 years.

Some large sharks live to 40 to 70 years.

The longest living shark on record is the Greenland Shark which can live to 400 years.

Sharks are migratory in nature and travel to places for food and favorable climate conditions.

Sharks have unique eyes that look lifeless with lots of teeth that make them so frightening.

There are some sharks that live in captivity under the care of experts trained in marine biology and veterinary science who study their habitat and take care of them medically.

There are over 500 species of sharks and they date back to hundreds of millions of years evidenced by fossils collected as far back as 400 million years ago.

I swim in the ocean and I’m visited at the aquarium. I like my privacy but sometimes I enjoy visitors who are curious how life is in the water for us.

I will peek at you from the bottom of the aquarium and I’m friendly but not fond of flash photography.

I like to swim and move around as you can see from a safe distance.
