I’m a Fox

I’m sly and cunning.

I’m also very shy and tend to be a loner.

I don’t run in a pack.

Foxes are solitary animals and hunt for food alone for themselves and their family.

They’re protective of their young pups and make sure when they come back from the hunt they bring enough food back for them as well.

Foxes are loyal animals and pair off with males finding their female mate to spend the rest of their lives together raising several litters of pups.

Foxes are friendly animals but prefer to be left alone and only pose a threat if they’re threatened or their young are.

They’re generally afraid of other animals including humans and will run off.

They generally live in the wild and protect their family as they migrate to find food and shelter.

They live in forests, deserts, grasslands and mountains.

Foxes eat small animals, insects, fish, vegetation, berries, fruits and vegetables.

Foxes usually are nocturnal so they’re active at night and sleep during the day.

Foxes live only 2 - 6 years in the wild but in zoological environments they can live up to 14 years where they are protected, fed and provided veterinary care and also visited by many to get a glimpse of them in their habitat.

Children are fascinated by foxes and their gentle qualities and always enjoy visiting them at the zoo.

Children love stories about foxes and one that was a popular Disney movie was The Fox and the Hound which portrayed a friendship between a red fox named Tod and his hound dog friend, Copper who save each other’s lives.

Zootopia, another Disney movie showcases a friendship between Judy Hopps, a police officer rabbit trying to crack a case with her unlikely assistant and friend, Nick Wilde, a sly red fox.

These movies introduce children to foxes and help them understand how wonderful they are.

Foxes are beautiful animals and love running in the wild.

They’re clocked at upwards of 45 miles per hour at their fastest.

I love to run in the wild but I do fear other animals and hunters and wish I was free of harm so sometimes it’s better in a zoo because there we are protected.

I know both worlds because I’m a fox.
