I’m a Deer

I’m a docile and tame animal.

I mind my own business but must always be on the lookout and always alert and aware of my surroundings.

I’m extremely fast and beautiful in stature.

I love to run around in the fields and woods but sometimes I get into trouble spots due to my proximity to residential areas where there are cars traveling roads I may cross.

It’s most difficult navigating at night in darkness on winding country roads.

It’s very scary when you see lights in the distance as you’re crossing roads so you must be agile and cross the road to safety before the car passes.

There’s a saying about a deer getting caught in the headlights which means the deer is overcome with panic and freezes unable to cross the road.

There are signs posted in deer crossing areas for our safety and the safety of others.

I prefer running in desolate areas where I can travel friendly terrain though I still must always be on guard for my safety.

I’m vulnerable in the wild because there are animals faster, bigger and stronger than I am so I must travel in herds and always stay together with the others.

Male deers are bucks and female deers are does.

The males have antlers that are used for protection against predators.

There is something very regal and majestic about deers when they run in herds together.

Deers graze in the grasslands and open fields, in the forests and by streams and waterways to stop for food and drink.

Deers are very protective of their young and go out alone to forage for food leaving their fawns behind in safe surroundings because they are not fully developed to outrun predators and would slow their mothers down if they were in harm’s way.

Deers are adaptable to various environments and the most popular of deers, the reindeer live in the winter cold with snow as they are celebrated at Christmastime and are known to be a part of Santa’s sleigh team.

The beauty of the winter landscape is the deer running in the snow.
