Verse 1 Everybody learns to read,
Succeeding on the whole.
Different schemes are used
To guide our kids towards this goal.
Two are still held in high regard
By older generations.
Teachers drove their pupils hard,
Exceeding expectations!

Verse 1 Books were ‘themed’ and used ‘Key Words’,
Repeated through… and through!
So traditional, no offence,
And very proper too!
Girls were all seen to cook and clean
And stay at home with Mummy.
Boys helped Daddy and played ball –
Today that seems quite funny!

‘Here is the cat. Jane likes the cat.’
‘But Peter does not, sadly.’
