I grew up in rural Alberta and I’ve lived somewhere in the same 50km radius my whole life. I’ve been writing songs for nearly as long. Filming these songs here in a small rodeo town feels like a gentle nod to my roots, like the customary two-finger wave from the steering wheel as you pass somebody going the opposite way on the way into town. But you drive the same road too many times and the journey starts to lose its charm. That’s how I was feeling creatively before I set out to make this new album. I could either stay anchored to what I already knew, or I could choose to let go of the bottom and let myself get carried away. And so With Pleasure is really about unapologetically indulging whatever needs to be felt. No self judgment. No holding back. No guilty pleasures. Light without shadow is two dimensional, and I would rather stumble through every shadow of my being than never find out who I am capable of becoming.
