I stumble
With each step I take, I fall
Air rushing deep into my lungs
Hunger setting deep into my core
Thirst squeezing on my throat

Three moons since my last sip of water
Carnivorous thoughts rush through my mind
Lusting for a taste of blood and flesh
Primal instincts; iron deprived

Movement in the corner of my eye
Clenching jaw and twitching reflex
Beyond the focus of my sight
Ululation of another species make the hairs raise
Unable to react to an escalating situation
First strike dealt with inaccurate hunger rage

Teeth digging in
Rich thick flow
First taste, ears back, irises grow
It too is weak
Delicious and sweet
Circling and dancing with a new rejuvenation
Anticipating the death blow

Eat

Tall and squinting eyes staring at the sunrise
Tending to the battle wounds of survival
Basking in the heat of the Father that gives us his light
Onto the Mother that gives us yet more
Learning quick this new species grows
Branching off with limbic system in stow
Some to go back to the sea
Some to remain stagnant or become extinct
But one that will grow on
To conquer all of this world
Beginning with hunger, a primal instinct; can't be ignored
