THE HOLLOW TREE

From the belly of the Lamb
cast back down upon the land
in the desert, on the mound
though I spoke there came no sound

the silent hurt boiled in my gut
drenched the dirt, I chose to run
at every turn a thorn that numbed
the memory of what I'd become

Stuck in the muck,
where I belong
the scorching sun
has bleached my song
The fattened years
all disappeared
along with everyone
who stood by the wayside
spectators expecting
down by the bayside

And yet I find myself by the Hollow Tree
