Looking deep into the riverbed
I wrote this song at the river's edge
asked it a question then I closed my eyes and I listened and here’s what the river said
Everything’s a part of something else
everything depends on something else
if there’s no causes and there’s no conditions then nothing can give rise unto self
dependent origination
I try to see with investigation
No matter how clear it is I still have fear of it
I can’t explain all my hesitation
Like watching the leaves fall in autumn
big Ernest I couldn’t believe when they shot him
or how they left him to bleed where they dropped him
crying, weeping, wheezing, coughing
I’m on a riverbank he’s in a coffin
repeating the cycle I’ll see you in autumn
you and I watching the leaves fall again
no matter your form you will still be my friend

Sometimes I feel out of place
Body’s on earth but my mind is in space
Dream of the past I’m rewinding the dates
but I’m still in the present applying for Grace
Scared of the ripple effects
of the purchases that keep my spirit in debt
and though I know that what I fear isn't death
but on my deathbed the appearance of stress
Breathing in breathing out
I used to need the crown
now I just dream about how I can even out
Used to think I had to cast all my demons out
now I just give them love when they see me around
Breathing in breathing out
Funny how badly we want to be free when bound
all of the screaming crowds
now when the speakers sound
om mani padme hum is the most frequent sound
Contemplation at the water's edge
my teacher said give it your all instead
I tried to do the bare minimum
all it gave me was the turmoil I’m swimming in
Now I’m more synchronized
open my blinking eyes
if there’s no mud there’s no lotus I realize
I’m looking deep inside
what do I see inside
only compassion and wisdom can free my mind
