I wrote Hannah a letter, but she did not write me back
I guess I'll keep on working, breaking my old back
I wrote to wish her better, and tell her love just ain't fair
How you can cherish something so deep, but they just don't care
I cannot keep on wishing, praying for a falling star
For wishing ain't praying unless you're through waiting to know who you are

I guess she didn't trust it, the start of what was begun
A miracle comes when you give up thinking you deserve one
Sometimes I just can't hear it, and stay gripped to losing on
Sometimes I can only bear life thinking pity doesn't make me wrong

I wrote Hannah a letter, but she did not write me back
I guess I'll keep on moving town to town, forever in the black


And If Hannah writes me a letter, I'll sit still and unpack
But, assuming something may happen keeps me locked to what I lack
See, I am the same as Hannah, so scared of what's ahead
But, I put ink to paper, never thinking what could have been said


But, I won't send a prayer that she will be mine
I, simply, can't change the Lord's concluding outline
Unknowing if she received me, is worse than the truth that's fair
But, the greater truth is walking away, and still breathing in the air

I wrote Hannah a letter, but she did not write me back
I wasn't made into a grain of salt when I rode away and turned my back


And I don't blame it on Hannah, without her I'd still fail

For want keeps you rigid, and your mind begins a gale

I still think she could be my twin, so I continue to be destroyed

I'll have to stop loving her, somehow, or dreams I shall avoid



Her courage to keep on going, and grow the healthy vine

Doesn't come from poor soil, and is taller than a mountain line

She is chosen for duties to uphold and edify

I love her so dear, I am weighing her down, a solemn goodbye

I hope the letter gets to you, but if not, then to God
