They're asleep in my apartment
Rapid movement of their eyes
I am rushing out the door because
My shift starts at 5

Being thanked for being here feels uncomfortable and weird
And no amount of cheering can get rid of contact fears
"Thank you for coming into work"
It wasn't my choice to make
Cos everybody needs a meal to fill an empty plate

So I wait to catch the bus
One more minute til it comes
Been cold since last March and I swear
The ice has settled in my lungs

I have never been so angry so consistently or deep
And the slightest inconvenience sets these strangers off for weeks
"Thank you for coming into work"
We just want to be safe
