Kìa là rừng sâu âm u dưới sương trời khuya
Một đoàn tàu đi quanh co giữa đêm trăng đây
Lòng tràn niềm vui đêm nay chúng ta cùng sum vây
Bên nhau ta hát hát mãi hát quên đường xa.

Rừng già về khuya im nghe tiếng ca đoàn ta
Hoà cùng trời mây bao la sáng tươi mơ màng
Vượt ngàn dặm xa gian nguy chí trai thề tung hoành
Ra đi ta chỉ ước một ngày mai huy hoàng.

Ôi, dừng chân đây hơi
Làn mây đêm thâu lơ lửng về đâu
Ôi, mây thấu chăng miền Băc
Giờ đau thương tràn khăp đông sâu.

Rừng ơi, trăng sáng la lướt muôn nơi
Trăng thăm tô thêm nhạc thêm vui
Tình xuân chan chứa mơ ước xa xôi
Nhưng biết đâu đời là mộng thôi.

Một hôi còi vang ngân lên xé tan màn sương
Lòng người rừng sâu nôn nao thức giữa đêm trường
Nhìn đoàn người đi mênh mang biết đâu là bến bờ
Đi xây no ấm, bác ái, đi xây tư do.

Dù đường còn xa bao la hay qua đôi cao
Biển rộng rừng sâu khi đi thân trai ngại gì
Rôi một ngày mai khi non sông say nhạc thanh bình
Chim xanh đua hót đón mừng đoàn ta trơ về.

There it is the murky jungle in the midnight dew
A train winds its way in the night of full moon.

Looking at the group of people going not knowing where the end of the road is.

How immense the sea is, how deep the jungle is, we – young men don’t regret
And tomorrow, when peace is back to our country
Blue birds sing their song welcoming us back.
There it is the jungle... welcoming us on the day of victory

*Vietnam was separated into 2 regions, Northern and Southern in the war (1954-1975) and the song was written based on a historical event in 1954 called “The Operation Passage to Freedom 1954” when lots of Northern people moved to the Southern Vietnam.
