By the sea, a humble man,
Cast his net, as best he can.
Caught a fish, golden and bright,
"Set me free, and I’ll grant you light."

He told his wife of the fish’s grace,
But she sought more, a higher place.

Wish by wish, her dreams grew tall,
From a cottage to a royal hall.
But greed took hold, she couldn’t see,
The simple joys, of what could be.

First, a house, then a grand estate,
A queen, a pope, she couldn’t wait.
"Make me ruler of sea and land!"
But the fish grew tired, wouldn’t stand.

The sea grew dark, the sky turned gray,
The fish took everything away.

Wish by wish, her dreams grew tall,
From a cottage to a royal hall.
But greed took hold, she couldn’t see,
The simple joys, of what could be.

Now they live by the shore once more,
Back to where they were before.
A lesson learned, too late to mend,
Greed and pride, they find no end.

Contentment’s key, and wisdom too,
Appreciate the simple, in all you do.
