It's not that easy bein' green,
having to spend each day
the color of the leaves.
Well, sometimes I think it might be nicer
bein' red, or yellow, or mother-of-pearl,
or something much more colorful like that.

Well, it's not easy bein' green,
it seems you blend in
with so many other ordinary things.
And people tend to pass you over
'cause you're not standing out
like flashy sparkles on the water,
or like stars in the sky.

But green is the color of spring,
and green can be real, cool, and friendly like.
Well now, green can be big just like an ocean,
or important like a mountain,
or tall like a tree.

If green is all there is to be
it may make you wonder why.
But, why wonder why, but why wonder why?
'Cause I'm green, and it'll do fine.
It's beautiful and I think it's all that I want to be.
