Broken Man

I never let my weakness show, I always hid behind my shield
To proud to let people know, I was not a man of steel
I was always starting from behind
But I told myself that I would be just fine
Pretending I had everything it takes, to win the race with time

It’s hard to imagine now, how I got it all so wrong
The answers were always there, I should have known all along
I took the path of least resistance,
And somehow I made it through
When I failed I didn’t learn, just kept building on these blues

Now you’re looking at a broken man, I only hope I can be saved
My sins are many and my failings are large
And I’m the only one to blame
It hit me hard then I figured it out,
And it brought me to my knees
My salvation’s always been there
I guess I’ve always known all I had to do was reach

I did everything the easy way, but I managed to skate by
But there will always be a reckoning, life doesn’t let you slide
Shortcuts taken have a price, and the piper always makes you pay
Any stolen comfort that you take comes back to haunt you someday
