light
shattered the clouds
Angel laughed
dreaming out loud
stainless steel
linen and chrome
this might be heaven,
this might be home
then when the spell broke
you yawned with surprise
finding yourself here, awake and alive
in your eyes

night
walked to the car
baby smiled
asleep in my arms
bumper crop
idling or parked
huddled like cattle
asleep in the dark
there in the back seat
we made up your bed
while you were watching
patiently overhead

sight
like the first time
two old coins
fell from my eyes
when we turned
on the road home
high on a hillside
saw the city below
(but) I didn't see the despair of it all
the waste and the violence,
no not at all
