November drew back her Veil and showed us her eyes
They were stars on a frozen night
Poetry fell like smoke from open mouths
Drifting soundless to the sky

Sweet November, did we sail too far from the sun?
Sweet November will the longest night ever come?

She will wrap you up in a coat of melancholy
Gather you up in folds of sweet and sorry
Wood smoke, damp earth and summers decay
Gun powder, lamp light, bath nights and ghost stories

And will the east wind carry her a new dress
Of purest white and glittering jewels
For the woods stand naked with their arms outstretched
To be dressed up in something new
