The velvet snow
The frozen lake
The icy pines
The children take
Their painted sleighs up the mountainside
But they don’t see
What’s hidden deep inside

They laugh and cheer
And slide all day
But something stirs
As the children play

For deep below the mountain side
The christmas bear lets out a cry

All at once the children stop
Standing there
Upon the mountaintop

A snow white bear
With fluffly fur and sleepy eyes
Is standing there

What takes him from
His winter lair?

He looks around to see the sight
The children stare
Eyes open wide
They cannot move
They’re petrified
But if they could
They’d run and hide

The big white bear
With fluffy fur
Begins to yawn while he’s standing there

A little girl can’t help but laugh
And suddenly begins to clap
She pats the bear upon the paw
As if it were the family dog

The sleepy bear
Begins to smile
And gently nudge the little child
And so she climbs
Upon his back
So fast they ride
Down the mountain track

See the children laugh
Hear the children sing
As they follow him

Look at friends at play
Chase their cares away
As the snow begins

But soon the darkness falls
And they must get back to their sleepy town
The bear lets out a sigh
And softly puts the child upon the ground

The two of them are teary-eyed
The time has come to say goodbye for a while
It won’t be long till spring awakes the friendly bear

See the sun melt the snow
Watch the flowers start to grow
Hear the birds in the trees
Feel the warmth of the breeze

Smell the earth as it wakes
Gentle streams, flowing lakes
Skies of blue, clouds of white
Darkness giving way to light

It won’t be long, no, it won’t long till we meet again
He says,
It won’t be long, no, it won’t long,
I’ll see you my friend
When the winter ends.
