A 1980 Dodge Van was my very first car
I drove her around just everywhere
Had 300,000 hard miles on that motor
Been haulin' my family round long as I remember

She took us to D.C., 6 Flags and Worlds of Fun
Daddy asleep at the wheel, Momma ridin' shotgun
I'd steer while my Daddy slept
He'd put it in cruise, take a little nap
How'd we stay alive in that 1980 Dodge Van

That 1980 Dodge Van, she was a maxi-van
Had to haul 5 kids and country band
We went all around to the Eagles, Elks and Moose
When I got a hold of her I really turned her loose
I took out all them seats
Had a home on wheels, oh it was real sweet
I's livin' large in that 1980 Dodge Van

I'd hobo round with my home parked on the street
From town to town, buskin' and livin' free
Yeah my first ramblin' days
Were in the Dodge Van Mom and Daddy gave me
And I drove here proud up and down, all across the land

Then one day that old van she didn't wanna start no more
I took her to a lot of mechanics and they broke my heart
Thousands of dollars later
She still had a broken carburetor
I wish someone could fix that 1980 Dodge Van
