I'm looking up at the sky only a single cloud and it's up so high
I'm looking down at the grass it's electric green and a summer breeze is blowing by
I'm sitting in the middle of a meadow on a checkered blanket next to the basket that you made for me

But it was only a dream and it never came true so I dropped it and let everything fall through

But I still want the life in my dreams with a perfect family up in the city living right by the sky
The one where I wasn't afraid where I hadn't quit and it rewarded the rest of my life
The one where I had the guy watching stars up in the sky the one in my dreams

I wrestled it for so long always dragging down while I waited for just one step back up
It was always like one step forward two steps backward and I'm really trying but the closer I get the dream runs further away
Then I hit rock bottom oh I wanted to fly back up but that wasn't an option anymore
And that's when the full truth came out this isn't the dream

I let it go on I let it go it just wasn't right when I woke up one night now scratch that I got a new dream
Well I still live in the city with a Christmas card family next to the sky but a little bit's changed
Now I wanna be on stage singing about how you screwed me up babe but no longer I'm stuck in that way
And even when it comes up again and again I can swear with a straight face that I'd rather have my friends

Now the old dream's gone but I love my new one and I want the fireworks after the sun
The stage the people and the lights it just sounds like more fun
Now it's new dream not old one but I still want a dream I still want a perfect life I want the one in my dreams
