Paroles de la chanson Marching With the Diggers par John Edmond lyrics officiel

Marching With the Diggers est une chanson en Anglais

Across the sea from Africa
I’d come along my way
To march with my Shamwaris
In the Anzac Day Parade

An overwhelming feeling
That once came over me
I felt the ghosts of soldiers
From old Geleper Lee

I met this grizzled digger
Who said “I’m from far out West”
With rows of gleaming metal
Across his bare old chest

He said “Where do you come from mate?”
With that flag of white and green
Alongside ours of blue and white
It’s the prettiest sign I’ve seen

With pipes and drums and bugles
We swung down the Sydney streets
With eyes left at the Cenotaaf
Where we laid our wreaths

We heard the crowds a-cheerin’
Me and my comrade
I was marching with the diggers
In the Anzac Day Parade

I said I come from Rhodesia
But now they’ve changed the name
But check our battle honours
Our ideals are the same

We’ve always fought with diggers
Side by side in wars
At the Siege of Elands River
We stopped three thousand Boers

With pipes and drums and bugles
We swung down the Sydney streets
With eyes left at the Cenotaaf
Where we laid our wreaths

We heard the crowds a-cheerin’
Me and my comrade
I was marching with the diggers
In the Anzac Day Parade

Somehow we’ve been together
In almost every war
1914, 1839 to 44
Malaya and Korea
Vietnam and it could be
Our kids were there together
Across the Timor Sea

With pipes and drums and bugles
We swung down the Sydney streets
With eyes left at the Cenotaaf
Where we laid our wreaths

We heard the crowds a-cheerin’
Me and my comrade
I was marching with the diggers
In the Anzac Day Parade

And when the march was over
The digger downed his spear
He clapped me on the back
And said “I’ll see ya here next year”

When I turned round to shake his hand
He was no longer there
That ghost from Old Geleper Lee
Had melted in thin air

With pipes and drums and bugles
We swung down the Sydney streets
With eyes left at the Cenotaaf
Where we laid our wreaths

We heard the crowds a-cheerin’
Me and my comrade
I was marching with the diggers
In the Anzac Day Parade

I was marching with the diggers
In the Anzac Day Parade

I was marching with the diggers
In the Anzac Day Parade
