See the stately secretary bird a strutting through the grassy fields of gold
Seems as if he's got some quills behind his ears like secretaries of old
But others say that secretary similes are only fakes
They say he's Sagittarius the hunting archer known for killing snakes

When you walk the fields
That secretary bird appeals
You never know what's lurking down there in the grass
It might be some nasty snake that'll bit you as you pass

We watch him as he's hunting some hapless creature that might just fall prey
Lizards rats and mice and snakes and other birds that might get in his way
With his long and scaly legs he'll flush 'em out and stamp them with his feet
And when he has stunned them he's gonna stab them with his beak

If you are a hiker
Just be like the duiker
Step so sprightly nice and lightly zig zag left and right
When you touch the ground don't stick around don't give them time to bite

When he kills his prey he swallows them
Head first down his throat
If a snake chances to bite him on his wings he doesn't need an anecdote
Then we see him take a run as he takes off for the sky
Way about the clouds at dizzy altitudes that are quite high
