That night we drove you to the hospital, I thought that you’d be fine
Then they came and brought us back, and told us that it was your time

I could tell you were scared. I tried to stay on my feet.
I put my hand on your face and said I’m not gonna leave
That I would see it through with you, because you’d it for me.
As I tried not to cry, you tried one last time to speak
I watched the life leave your eyes and I collapsed to my knees.
I felt my whole world was over, I was so crushed by grief
I found the smallest bit of refuge in the fact you’re at peace

I still celebrate your birthday
I see you sometimes when I blink
I know that somewhere you’re out there
watching me from the brink
When I was down you picked me up
You showed me that I could be loved.
Every single second spent with you was more than enough
