I took my little girl Christmas shopping in a great big center mall
Where we bought little presents for all those we could recall
And when the Christmas tree was over I was happy we were done
And she said, Daddy, we forgot the most important one
With curiosity I asked her and who might that one be
With those sad eyes she said to me it's the Christ child, don't you see
Tomorrow will be his birthday he was born on Christmas Day
He's in a chapel in a manger may I stop there on our way
So I led her by the present I had it all wrapped up in white
We passed by the chapel she tiptoed inside
I followed close behind her to see what she would do
And then I heard her say to Jesus Happy birthday to you
She leaned over and kissed Jesus as she tore the wrapper apart
I got so choked up inside it nearly broke my heart
She wound up the music box and I could hear it play
