I had not fished in sixty years
Been too busy with my careers
When I was young I fished with dad
Still remember the good times we had

My dad is gone and I'm retired
My fishing license long expired
Now I'll try my luck again
Not the same as way back when

Found my dads old fishing gear
Not been used for many a year
I cleaned it off and spooled it up
Grabbed my dads old coffee cup

Hiawassee I'm coming out
Gonna catch some river trout
Anticipation at a high
I hope they strike my dads old fly

Found a spot in Big Bend
Starting to miss my old friend
Wading out I cast my line
Been a while but did just fine

Still recall those tips from dad
"cast your line here my lad"
Out all day and not a bite
Have to find a new site

It's not really about the fish
That tasty meal on my dish
It's really about the time
I spend with my lifelong father friend

Next I'll try to fish at dawn
I miss my dad since he's gone
Before I go I'll make it clear
"there ain't no dam fish in here!"
