When dawn broke on Hrothgar's
Hall, the survivors stumbled out of
the wreckage of that beautiful palace
to count the cost. Unarmed warriors
had been dragged from their beds
and eaten alive. Those lucky enough
to escape and brave enough to attack
Grendel, said that their swords and
axes had been useless: nothing was
capable of piercing Grendel's scaly
skin. Hrothgar and his men were
powerless. And Grendel knew it. Again
and again he returned for more and
more blood until there was no family in
the land that had not lost a loved one.
