With leaf-bare trees

This frosted landscape

And split-log fence

On toward the house
With the red brick chimney
Smell of wood smoke
In the crisp, clean air
Lights beckoning with warmth
Promises of cocoa

On Christmas Day
Behind, the two long weeds rustle
Their icy tops
Shake in the wind
But arms around each other
They trudge on
And are swallowed
Gently by the snow

Dragging a tree through the snow?
