What was that life all about?
What was it all for?
I heard the cry, I heard the shout,
Like nothing come before.
Lives were lost and lives were gained,
Lives were changed for good.
And can we say, now that it’s done,
We did all we could?

Sometimes yes… Sometimes no…
We all tried to make it so.

Yes, there’s still a ways to go.

A generation’s hopes and dreams
To build a better “now”
Were sometimes taken to extremes
While simply asking “how?”
Have we nurtured love and peace,
Respect of every kind?
Did quality of life increase?
The planet? Or the mind?

We all tried to make it so.
Sometimes yes… Sometimes no…
Yes, there’s still a ways to go.

Is this now a better world - a better world we made?
Have we all become the ones of whom we were afraid?
Did standards change, did things improve, and were opinions swayed?
Did we make a difference after all the cards were played?

Tried so hard to change the world -
Sometimes we got it right.
Accusations had been hurled
At everything in sight.
And sometimes we just got it wrong.
Sometimes it don’t seem fair
We’ll never sing just one big song
But still, we’ve got to care.
